Sriram Srinivarsan's book is a delight.
Most things that have direct correlates in other languages in Perl are
covered, often with useful comparisons to the alternative language
The examples, 3 years after I first read the book, are still
interesting and fresh.
I particularly applaud the chapters on RPC with Msg and object
persistence. (XML-RPC and friends may take this over, but a CPAN
version of Msg would make Java's rpc look less interesting, even now.)
The discussion of Perl foreign function interface and embedding Perl in
c remains the best short introductions to either of these fields I have
If you use perl frequently, read this book!
